Exact Data Match support for Customer Managed Key

After a successful public preview (MC246007) in April 2021, this new release will enable you to be able to encrypt Exact Data Match (EDM) data using your own Customer Managed Key (CMK), further enhancing EDM data security.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 81987.

When this will happen:

Rollout will begin in mid-June and is expected to be complete by end of June 2021

How this will affect your organization:

If your organization has set up CMK (now generally available), your EDM data will be more secure as it will be automatically encrypted using a CMK.

EDM content that is encrypted using the CMK includes the data file schemas, rule packages, and the salts, which are used in hashing the sensitive data being protected.

What you need to do to prepare:

• Learn about service encryption with Customer Key
• Learn about creating custom sensitive information types with Exact Data Match
