New Experiences coming to Viva Engage

Next month, new experiences will be available within Viva Engage for Microsoft Viva customers.

Admins will see new capabilities and service plans in the Admin Center and new experiences in the Viva Engage app in Microsoft Teams, and on Yammer.com. For an overview of these experiences, check out this blog.

When this will happen:

We will begin rolling out February 2023 and expect to complete by end of March 2023.

How this affects your organization:

The following capabilities will become available for licensed Viva Suite customers when they enable the ‘Viva Engage Communities & Communications’ (Viva Engage premium experiences) service plan:

Viva Engage App in Teams (and Yammer.com) –

  • Leadership corner: this space is an employee’s personalized hub to discover (leader discovery & suggested leaders), see content from (leader stories, activity feed, & sponsored campaigns), and engage with (AMAs & AMA history) their leaders. For more on leadership corner in Viva Engage, watch this Microsoft Mechanics session.
  • Leader storyline announcements and storyline delegate support: Official leaders can create ‘announcement’ storyline posts that reach their audience directly in email and Teams notifications. Post on behalf of another user allows the user to assign a delegate who can post to their storyline on their behalf. Learn more about delegate posting here.
  • Viva Engage social #campaigns: Corporate communicators can create official hashtags for campaigns that inspire participation and aggregate campaign activity with following, leader sponsorship, theming, and supporting resources.
  • Viva Engage analytics: ‘My Analytics’, actionable insights on engagement and reach for an individual’s activity in Viva Engage. ‘Audience Analytics’, leaders get rich data on engagement, reach, sentiment, and activity for their connected audience and tips & coaching for why it matters. ‘Campaign Analytics’, track progress towards goals, top contributors & contribution sources, and overall reach for social media campaigns in Viva Engage.
  • Ask Me Anything Events (coming soon): All users can create moderated Q&A events from their storyline page. AMAs include question upvoting & sorting, best answer, and optional anonymous submission.

The following capabilities will become available for licensed Viva Suite customers when they enable the ‘Viva Engage Knowledge’ service plan (for Answers in Microsoft Viva premium experience):

  • Answers in Viva – this platform service shows up as a tab in Viva Engage and connects employees to the answers they need by crowdsourcing knowledge from across the organization. Answers is a conversational experience for asking questions and connecting to experts for answers. Natural language processing helps match those questions with any existing answers, and the experience rewards experts who contribute back to the knowledge base. Answers in Viva is available to licensed Viva Suite customers and/or licensed Viva Topics customers. Note: Customer tenants will need to be in Native Mode and require Yammer topics being migrated to Viva Topics.

What you need to do to prepare:

  • Since the service plans are already assigned to the users / employees by default, admins should cross-verify to ensure correct set of users are entitled for new experiences, and as needed, should unassign the licenses from specific users using this guidance.
  • If needed, admins can assign licenses to additional employees using this guidance.
  • Admins should prepare to identify corporate communicator roles to take advantage of social media campaigns and leader identification using the Engage admin center.
  • Admins and corporate communicators should prepare to identify leaders and connect audiences using the Engage admin center to take advantage of new leadership capabilities in storyline and leadership corner.
  • Admins and Viva Topics admins should prepare to identify Answers admins that are familiar with community management and/or Viva Topics management.
  • Customer tenants will need to be in Native Mode and require Yammer topics being migrated to Viva Topics to meet technical requirements to use Answers.
  • If desired, disablement of specific Engage experiences will be available upon GA.
