Microsoft Viva Engage: New “AI summarization” setting

Microsoft Viva Engage is introducing an “AI summarization” setting for improved AI themes and summaries in Audience Analytics. This feature, adhering to Microsoft Responsible AI guidelines, is controlled via Viva Feature Access Management and is available for premium licensed tenants. Rollout begins late September 2024.

Updates to Audience Analytics AI summarization features are coming to Microsoft Viva Engage. With this rollout, leaders and their delegates in premium licensed tenants will have access to improved AI themes and summaries in their Engage Audience Analytics due to improvements to the underlying AI platform. In alignment with Microsoft Responsible AI guidelines, these AI features will be controlled with the AI summarization setting in Viva Feature Access Management (VFAM). This feature is available to customers with a license for Engage premium, Microsoft Viva Suite, or Microsoft Viva Employee Communications and Communities.

As communicated in MC719651 Microsoft Viva Engage premium: Introducing Viva Feature Access Management (February 2024), global admins or Engage admins only can use Viva Feature Access Management to create these granular access policies for AI summarization:

  • Tenant policy: Automatically includes all users in the tenant.
  • Group/user-level policy: Admins can choose individual users/groups that should be part of the access policy.
  • Admins can use both tenant and group policies for restricting or enabling access to both Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 and Summarization.

These granular access policies provide admins with the ability to turn the features ON, OFF, or ON with user opt out. Learn more about how VFAM works: Microsoft Viva – Feature access management | Microsoft Learn

When this will happen:

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out late September 2024 and expect to complete by early October 2024. The AI summarization control is available now for you to configure your setting preferences on VFAM.

How this will affect your organization:

Before this rollout: The settings Audience-level sentiment, Theme-level sentiment, and Sentiment per top conversation are available in Engage Audience Analytics.

After this rollout, to align to Microsoft Responsible AI guidelines, the existing settings Audience-level sentiment, Theme-level sentiment, and Sentiment per top conversation will be retired and these AI features will be controlled with the AI summarization setting. The AI summarization features will be ON by default and available for admins with the specified licenses to enable them.

What you need to do to prepare:

Tenant admins: Review your AI summarization settings and confirm that your latest preferences are represented.

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date with no admin action required before the rollout. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation.
