Microsoft Copilot Studio – Use your encryption keys to secure data
We are announcing the “Use your encryption keys to secure data” feature for Microsoft Copilot Studio. This feature enables you to manage data security and govern the encryption keys used to encrypt your data. This feature will reach general availability on May 12, 2025.

How does this affect me?
Power Platform enables customers to use customer-managed encryption keys (CMK) for added data protection control where they can self-manage the database encryption key that is associated with their Microsoft environment. This allows Power Platform Admins to rotate or swap the encryption key on demand and allows them to prevent Microsoft’s access to your customer data when by allowing them to revoke the key access to our services at any time.
Copilot Studio is adding support for CMK allowing customers to control access of all the Data within Copilot Studio. We’ll support the standard Power Platform implementation and customers won’t need to do anything specific to enable CMK for Copilot Studio. Power Platform only allows Managed Environments to be enabled for CMK. For any environment that is enabled for CMK after the public preview date, all Copilot Studio data will now be encrypted using the customer keys. Going forward, the customer can cycle keys or disable CMK as they desire.
Please note that environments that already have CMK enabled before the public preview date will not use CMK.
