Microsoft Outlook: Summarize email with Copilot chat

Outlook will introduce a Copilot chat feature to summarize emails with one click, available to Microsoft 365 Copilot license users across all platforms by November 2025. It requires no admin setup, respects existing policies, and aims to save users time and improve focus.

Introduction

We’re introducing a new way to quickly summarize emails using Copilot chat in Outlook. With a single click, users can generate concise summaries of email content, helping them stay focused and save time. This feature supports both Classic and New Outlook for Windows and is available to users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license and pinning enabled.

When this will happen:

  • Targeted Release (Worldwide): Rollout underway by early October 2025; expected completion by early November 2025.
  • General Availability (Worldwide): Begins mid-October 2025; expected completion by late November 2025.

What you can do to prepare:

  • No action is required.
  • You may choose to inform users about the new summarization capability.
  • If desired, update internal documentation to reflect the availability of this feature.
  • The feature will be available across Android, Desktop, iOS, Mac, Web, and both Classic and New Outlook for Windows.
  • No admin configuration is required; the feature is enabled by default for eligible users.
  • Existing policies are respected; no changes to admin controls are needed.
