Dataverse – AI-powered Dataverse search enhancements

We are announcing an enhancement of the Dataverse search feature for Power Platform. This feature improves semantic indexing and enhances the knowledge experience and quality for agents in Copilot Studio, amongst other Power Platform experiences.

How does this affect me?

Starting April 7, 2025, Dataverse search will be enabled automatically for all environments that utilize Dataverse search or any of the AI-enabled experiences that use uploaded files or Dataverse tables to ensure business continuity across the platform. This change will also result in an increase in consumption of storage capacity for database and file storage.

What are the experiences enabled by Dataverse search?

Multiple features within the Power Platform are enabled via Dataverse search. These experiences include:

Microsoft Copilot Studio Agents

  1. Add Files as a knowledge source
  2. Add Dataverse as a knowledge source
  3. Virtual Agent

Dynamics 365 Copilots

  1. Sales Copilot
  2. Customer Service Copilot
  3. Contact Center Copilot
  4. Field Service Copilot

Power Apps – Model-Driven Apps

  1. Copilot Chat
  2. Dataverse search

Experiences across the Power Platform

  1. In Power Apps / Power Automate
  2. In Microsoft Copilot Studio
  3. Power Apps / Power Automate – Custom AI Prompts

How will Dataverse search be reported?

Storage consumed by Dataverse search is already reported at the Environment level as a table called “RelevanceSearch”. Moving forward, this table will be available for both Database and File storage consumption and renamed to match accordingly:

  • “DataverseSearch-StructuredIndex” for Database storage indexing
  • “DataverseSearch-UnstructuredIndex” for Files storage indexing

RelevanceSearch can be viewed at the Environment report in Power Platform Admin Center or Capacity report. For more information see Dataverse capacity-based storage details.

Dataverse search will be charged at the same rate as DB Capacity and File Capacity, measured in GBs, based on the content storage consumption (that currently does not include the storage for the Dataverse indexed data).

Dataverse search counts towards the different storage entitlements you have in the tenant.

It is recommended to have Dataverse search enabled so users can leverage the benefits of gen. AI experiences and enjoy a superior search experience in model-driven apps.

What action do I need to take?

This message is for awareness and no action is required.

More information about Dataverse search will become available via blog post late March and updated in FAQ for Dataverse search upon roll out, as well Enhance AI-powered experiences with Dataverse search soon.
