Drawn electronic signatures with eSignature for Microsoft 365

eSignature for Microsoft 365 will add a drawn signature option for signing PDFs, allowing use of stylus, touch, or mouse. Rolling out worldwide from mid-March to mid-May 2026, enabled by default with no admin changes needed. Users can switch between drawn and typed signatures.

Introduction

We’re adding a new option that allows users to draw their electronic signature when signing PDFs in eSignature for Microsoft 365. This provides a more natural signing experience and expands the existing typed signature option.

When this will happen

General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout will begin in mid-March 2026 and is expected to complete by mid-May 2026.

How this affects your organization

Who is affected: All users in Microsoft 365 tenants who use eSignature for Microsoft 365 to sign PDF documents.

What will happen:

  • Users will see a new option to draw their signature:

  • Drawn signatures will be created with a stylus, touch, or mouse.
  • Users can switch between drawn and typed signatures during signing.
  • The feature will be enabled by default for all tenants.
  • No admin configuration changes or policy updates will be required.

What you can do to prepare

No action is required. Organizations may choose to update internal documentation or training materials to reflect the new signing option.
