Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance empowers end users to report inappropriate messages in Microsoft Teams
Coming soon, the ability for Microsoft Teams users to report concerning messages within Teams will be turned on by default for your organization. Concerning messages could include ones that contain potential regulatory policy violations or security-related concerns, such as improper sharing of sensitive business information, messages containing harassing or threatening language, or adult content.
This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 88916.
When this will happen:
Rollout will begin in early July and is expected to be complete by end of December.
How this will affect your organization:
This feature is an organization-wide messaging policy that enables people to anonymously “Report a message” within Teams channels, groups, meetings, and private chat messages. To protect the privacy of the person reporting the message, none of the chat participants will be informed or made aware when a message is reported. When someone submits a Teams chat message for review, the message is copied to the “User-reported messages” policy in Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance where a designated Communication Compliance investigator can perform all the standard remediation actions on the message, such as notifying the user who violated a policy, escalating for investigation, and removing the message from the Teams chat or channel, among others. Built with privacy by design, the “Report a message” feature pseudonymizes employee usernames by default.
What you need to do to prepare:
Communication Compliance provides the tools to help organizations detect potential regulatory compliance violations (e.g. SEC or FINRA) and business conduct violations, such as inappropriate sharing of sensitive/confidential information, adult content, and using harassing or threatening language. Built with privacy by design, usernames are pseudonymized by default, role-based access controls are built in, investigators are opted in by an admin, and audit logs are in place to help ensure user-level privacy.
Learn more:
This capability will be enabled by default for your organization as part of a phased rollout and can be controlled via Teams messaging policies in the Teams admin center. The global policy will automatically apply to users in your organization unless you create and assign a custom policy. You can edit the settings in the global policy or create and assign one or more custom policies to turn on or turn off this feature.
