Microsoft Purview | eDiscovery Content Search case changes
Starting February 16, 2026, Microsoft Purview eDiscovery Content Search cases will no longer support review sets or case-level data sources. Users needing advanced review features should use dedicated eDiscovery cases. Existing searches and exports remain unaffected; no action is needed if only searching and exporting.

Introduction
We’re making changes to modern eDiscovery Content Search case. Starting February 16, 2026, Content Search cases will no longer support review sets or case-level data sources. These capabilities will remain available in dedicated non-Content Search eDiscovery cases.
When this will happen:
This change will begin rolling out on February 16, 2026.
How this affects your organization:
Who is affected: Organizations using eDiscovery Content Search case in Microsoft Purview.
What will happen:
- Users may notice that review sets and case-level data source options are no longer available in the Content Search case when this change is implemented.
- Users who require review, filtering, tagging, analytics, or other advanced review capabilities may no longer be able to perform these actions in Content Search case after this change.
- Existing searches and direct exports in Content Search cases will not be affected.
What you can do to prepare:
- No action is required if you use Content Search cases only for search and direct export.
- We recommend users move review activities to dedicated eDiscovery cases for investigations that are not Content Search cases.
- If your workflow requires review sets or case-level data sources:
- Create a separate eDiscovery case for investigations.
- Add data sources and review sets in that case to continue your end-to-end eDiscovery workflow.
