Microsoft Viva: Update to SharePoint publishing limits in Viva Amplify

Microsoft Viva Amplify is reducing the SharePoint publishing limit from 10 to 5 sites to improve performance and reliability. The change, rolling out globally by late August 2025, requires no admin action but may need internal documentation updates. Users can publish in batches if more than 5 sites are needed.

Introduction

To improve publishing performance and reliability in Viva Amplify, we’re updating the SharePoint distribution channel limits. This change is part of ongoing infrastructure enhancements designed to streamline content delivery and ensure consistent publishing experiences.

When this will happen

  • General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout began in late July 2025 and is expected to complete by mid- to late August 2025.

How this affects your organization

The maximum number of SharePoint sites that can be selected when publishing via Viva Amplify has been reduced from 10 sites to 5 sites. This change helps ensure more dependable delivery of content across selected destinations.

  • This change is automatically applied; no admin configuration is required.
  • The user interface (UI) will be updated to reflect this change, showing a limit of 5 sites instead of 10.
  • Users who need to publish to more than 5 sites should copy the publication and publish in batches to maintain optimal performance.
  • There is no impact to existing content or publishing workflows beyond this site selection limit.
