Planner Mobile Push Notification Update

We are updating the delivery method for mobile push notifications in the Planner mobile apps for iOS and Android. Notifications from these apps will be delivered via a direct push method, where the contents of the notifications will be sent to the mobile device over Apple and Google push notification services. End users will see no changes to their existing user experience with Planner.

Notification content may include;

  • Task name
  • Plan name
  • Assigner name

This message is not associated with a Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID

When this will happen

We will begin rolling this out in mid-March and expect to complete rollout by mid-April.

How this will affect your organization

We are adding a tenant admin switch for Planner mobile app push notifications. While by default Planner mobile app push notifications are enabled, a tenant can toggle the switch to disable Planner app mobile push notifications for their tenancy.

More information on this tenant admin switch is found here.

What you need to do to prepare

You might want to notify your users about this new capability and update your training and documentation as appropriate.
