Self-serve Device Reregistration in Windows Autopatch
To provide IT admins the ability to self-serve device reregistration without the requirement of opening a service request with the Windows Autopatch support team, Windows Autopatch has made generally available on July 31, 2023, the restore device feature within its end-user experience in the Microsoft Intune admin portal.
How will this affect your organization:
- No impact is expected to your organization’s Windows Autopatch tenant.
- Starting on July 31, 2023, you might have noticed that devices with the “Excluded” state started showing up under the not registered tab in the Devices blade. This means these devices were previously excluded/deregistered by you from the Windows Autopatch service, but they still belong to one or more Azure AD groups used to register devices with the service.
- Additionally, you now have a new option to only filter excluded devices in the Devices blade. In the Not registered tab, you can then “Restore device” under the Device actions menu; With the Restore device option, you can self-serve device reregistration directly from the Microsoft Intune admin center.
What you need to do to prepare:
- No action is required from IT admins to prepare for the addition of this feature into the service.
- Optional: if you want, you can now re-register/restore devices that were previously deregistered/excluded from the service directly from the Windows Autopatch’s devices blade in the Not registered tab.
- Optional: you can review exclude a device documentation for more details on how to exclude or restore devices in Windows Autopatch.
If you have any questions or concerns, or need assistance, file a service request by visiting the Support section of the Microsoft Intune admin center.
