Installing web add-ins to replace COM add-ins in new Outlook for Windows

Microsoft is transitioning to the new Outlook for Windows, replacing COM add-ins with web add-ins. Users can switch to the new Outlook and install equivalent web add-ins during the onboarding process. The rollout begins in late July 2024, with general availability in early August 2024.

Web links in the new Outlook for Windows to open side-by-side with email in Microsoft Edge

The new Outlook for Windows will open web links in Microsoft Edge side-by-side with the email, enhancing productivity. This feature will be rolled out from late July to late September 2024 and applies to links from AAD and MSA accounts. Organizations can configure this behavior using the Cloud Policy service or Administrative Templates for Microsoft 365 Apps. Users will be notified of this change and can manage their preferences in Outlook settings.

Modernized user-defined permissions experience for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Microsoft 365 apps will introduce a new experience for setting user-defined permissions in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with updated names for permission levels. Preview starts mid-July 2024, with general availability in early September 2024. Organizations may need to update training materials accordingly.

Microsoft 365 Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for web: Enhanced File menu and easier file renaming

Microsoft 365 Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for web will soon feature an enhanced File menu and more efficient file renaming. Rollout begins mid-May 2024, completing by early October 2024. The update addresses user feedback for easier file management and clearer autosave indication. No admin action is required for the rollout.

Use Microsoft Purview to prevent some connected experiences that analyze content

Microsoft Purview can now prevent content analysis by connected experiences using a new sensitivity label setting or Double Key Encryption. This feature is part of Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 398991 and will be available in Public Preview in early June via Current Channel Preview v2406+ and for General Availability in late June/early July 2024 via Current Channel v2406+. The setting is off by default and requires PowerShell configuration.
