New Outlook to be pre-installed on Windows 10 devices

The new Outlook will be pre-installed on Windows 10 devices with the optional January 28, 2025 release, and the February 11, 2025 security update. It will exist alongside classic Outlook without altering configurations or defaults. Preparation guidance is available for controlling the installation.

Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions encryption support in new Outlook for Windows

New Outlook for Windows is rolling out S/MIME support for sending and reading signed and encrypted emails. This feature is accessible in Options > More Options and will not impact organizations not using New Outlook or without S/MIME setup. Rollout is automatic, requiring no admin action but user notification is advised.

New Microsoft Outlook for Windows: Move email between mailbox and PST file

The new Microsoft Outlook for Windows will soon allow users to move emails between mailboxes and PST files. Rollout starts mid-January 2025, with full availability by late April 2025. Organizations can manage PST file support via OutlookDataFile mailbox policy. No admin action is required before rollout.

Rollouts begin mid-January 2025, with general availability in March 2025. PST support will be default, but can be managed with OutlookDataFile mailbox policy. New deployments of Microsoft 365 desktop client apps to include new Outlook

Microsoft 365 desktop client apps’ new deployments will now include new Outlook. Rollout starts late February 2025, with completion by early March 2025. Administrators can configure deployments to include/exclude new Outlook, which will be on by default. Existing “try new Outlook” policies remain unaffected. Further details are in the updated documentation.

Double Key Encryption (DKE) is now available for Word, Excel, PowerPoint on Android, offering a second encryption key for sensitive content. Microsoft 365 (Office) apps: The “Tags” feature will retire

The “Tags” feature in Microsoft 365 apps will be retired between January 6 and January 10, 2025. Users can use the “Favorites” feature as an alternative. No admin action is needed for this change.

Microsoft Excel for the web: Python in Excel will be generally available starting in early 2025

Python in Excel will be available on Excel for the web in early 2025, allowing users to use Python formulas without installation. This follows its availability on Excel for Windows in September 2024. Users can access standard compute or purchase a premium add-on for faster calculations. The rollout requires no admin action.
