Retiring Turn On File Synchronization Via SOAP Over HTTP

We are removing the “Turn on file synchronization via SOAP Over HTTP” policy from Group Policy. This policy allows IT admins to turn file synchronization via SOAP over HTTP on or off for Office.

When is this change taking effect?

Retiring Support for iOS 13 and MacOS 10.14

We will be retiring support for iOS 13 and MacOS 10.14 on the To Do iOS and Mac apps respectively. We recommend upgrading to version 14 and above for iOS and 10.15 and above for MacOS to continue using the To Do application on your device. If automatic upgrades are not set up on your device, then instructions to upgrade can be found here for iOS and here for MacOS.

Microsoft Excel Online: Support for the Furigana (Phonetics) Feature

We’re happy to announce support for the furigana phonetics feature in Excel Online. We’ve now added support for the feature in Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Hong-Kong locales. Users are now able to view furigana in Excel Online.

Consolidating OneNote apps on Windows

We are consolidating OneNote and OneNote for Windows 10. OneNote for Windows 10 listing in the Microsoft Store is being removed and replaced by the OneNote app on Windows listing going forward. For all future Microsoft Store downloads, OneNote will be installed instead of OneNote for Windows 10.

Header and footer content mark changes for Microsoft Purview Information Protection in Word

We’re improving behavior of Microsoft Purview Information Protection (MIP) content markings for headers and footers in Word to be more closely aligned with the behavior implemented by the Azure Information Protection (AIP) plugin for Office apps. This includes inserting header and footer content with the “in front of text” configuration so content markings won’t rearrange existing document content.

Reminder: Microsoft Office default change – Blocking VBA macros in files from the internet

VBA macros are a common way for malicious actors to gain access to deploy malware and ransomware. As a reminder (MC322553 in Feb 2022, MC393185 in June 2022), to help improve security, we are changing the behavior of Office applications to now block macros in files from the internet. Learn more in this blog post.

This change only affects Office on devices running Windows and only affects the following applications: Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Word.

Microsoft 365 Defender: Update to User Page

Over the last few months, the experiences and functions of Microsoft Defender for Identity have been made available in Microsoft’s extended detection and response (XDR) platform, Microsoft 365 Defender. Merging identity data and functions into this XDR experience is a valuable addition to a security teams capabilities, with identity providing important context to detection logic and investigation potential.

To enhance the identity experience further, we are making some changes to the User page in Microsoft 365 Defender. We are standardizing the look and feel to align with the other entity pages available in Microsoft 365 Defender. The structure and layout of all entities should be consistent after this release. These changes are pre-requisites for upcoming functionality, due to land later in the year.
