Classic Microsoft Teams: Uninstallation paused for Windows only

Automatic uninstallation of classic Microsoft Teams for Windows is paused due to an issue affecting the Teams Meeting Add-in in Outlook. Impacted users can use the Teams Calendar as a workaround and refer to Microsoft Learn for troubleshooting steps. Manual uninstallation guidance is also provided.

Microsoft Teams: Administrative Units for Teams Administration

We are excited to announce the availability of administrative units (AUs) for Teams administration. AUs are a way to delegate admin roles and delegate administration to a subset of users in your organization, based on attributes such as department, location, or business unit. With AUs, you can create more granular and flexible management scenarios for your Teams environment. Microsoft Teams: Custom background on Teams panels

Administrators can upload and set custom background images for Teams panels through the Teams admin center, enabling them to reflect their organization’s branding. This feature will be available for Teams Rooms Pro and Teams Shared Devices licensed panels.

Teams Room on Windows will support up to four single stream cameras that will be shown to remote meeting attendees. With multiple camera view, remote meeting attendees will have the ability to follow all the action in the room and manually toggle between views from the room that they want to see.

Microsoft Teams: New preapproval policies for RSC permissions

Microsoft Teams introduces a public preview of preapproval policies for RSC permissions, enabling admins to control user consent for RSC on an app-by-app basis. Rollout begins June 24, 2024, for Targeted Release and mid-September 2024 for General Availability. Admins can learn to manage these policies via PowerShell cmdlets. No action is required for the rollout.

Microsoft Teams: Automatically set work location on bookable desks

The user’s work location can be automatically set to ‘In the office’ upon plug-in to peripherals at a bookable desk. Once IT enables the policy for a tenant or a group, users can opt-in to automatically update their location making it easier to connect with co-workers when they are in the office.

Microsoft Teams: Text Resizing for Teams Rooms on Windows

IT admins can adjust the text size on the front-of-room display by adjusting the display scaling using Windows display scaling settings or XML settings, providing greater accessibility options. Changing the display scaling percentage also affects the size of other UI elements.

Microsoft Teams: Extended directory retires starting July 22, 2024

We will be retiring the Extended directory preview-only feature for Connected Chat in Microsoft Teams starting July 22, 2024, and ending July 31, 2024. Instead, we recommend admins use Teams connect chat supported by external access, where we will continue to invest our development resources. You can access the External access features in Teams admin center > Users > External access.

The Extended directory feature, which was released to public preview customers in February 2024, is being deprecated due to low feature usage and customer demand. As a result, we will gradually phase out the feature by disabling it in all interfaces. The retiring feature was accessed with the Manage external user profiles button:
