Microsoft Teams: Start/stop recording on Teams Rooms on Windows

Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows will soon allow direct meeting recording start/stop with a Teams Rooms Pro license and app version 5.2. Rollouts begin mid-October 2024, with different timelines for Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, and DoD. The feature will be on by default and configurable by admins.

Microsoft Teams: Room audio auto-detect and pre-select in BYOD meeting rooms

When users connect their laptop to a room’s shared peripheral through USB, Teams automatically detects the room’s audio and recommends connecting on the pre-join screen, streamlining the bring your own device (BYOD) meeting room experience. For room devices (e.g., displays, audio devices) recognized as shared and on Microsoft’s known BYOD devices list, users will automatically transition to the room’s audio upon connection.

CAPTCHA Verification for Anonymous Meeting Participants

Microsoft Teams is introducing CAPTCHA verification for anonymous participants, rolling out in early to mid-October 2024. This feature, which is off by default, can be enabled by Tenant Admins in the Teams Admin Center to provide additional security.

Microsoft Teams: Streamlined process for installing Teams apps

Microsoft Teams is introducing a simplified app installation process to enhance user experience, with fewer steps involved. Rollouts will begin in early September 2024 for Targeted Release, mid-September for General Availability worldwide, and late October for GCC. The update is automatic and does not alter existing app management practices.

Teams copy/paste of messages does not include timestamp and message author name

Teams has removed timestamps and author names from copied messages to reduce clutter. Users who need detailed message transfer should use the Forward feature or Teams Export API. This change is already in effect, and organizations may need to update training materials accordingly.

Microsoft Teams: Real-time notifications (Live Activities) for Teams meetings on iOS lock screen

iOS Live Activities integration for Teams meetings on mobile allows users to view the live progress of a meeting at-a-glance from their lock screen. Real-time notifications with Live Activities automatically update in real-time so users can see when the meeting has started, when it’s in progress, whether recording is on, when someone needs to be admitted from the lobby, and when the meeting has ended. Live Activities is for iPhones only (iOS16.1).

Microsoft Teams: New security and certification information available for apps and extensions

This feature will equip administrators evaluating apps and copilot extensions for deployment with extensive security and related certification data to help those admins more quickly evaluate that an app and/or extension complies with their tenant security requirements. Initially, the information provided will include results from individual M365 certification tests and evidence submitted by ISVs during Microsoft’s audit of their app or copilot extension. Additionally, for non-certified apps, admins will receive details on data handling, security, and
compliance as self-attested by the ISV.

Microsoft Teams: Microsoft Mesh app on PC supports guest access for events

Attendees can now join Mesh events as a guest in the Microsoft Mesh app on PC. Event organizers can invite guest users outside their organization, providing an opportunity for broader collaboration and networking in Mesh events. Guests can sign in to Mesh app to join events, participate in discussions, and experience the same interactive features as internal users, all while maintaining secure access control. Guest access for events in the Mesh app on Quest and support for anonymous participants will be supported in a future update.

When participants join a Teams meeting with their laptop in bring your own device (BYOD) meeting rooms, they will appear in the ‘in-room’ participant section of the roster enabling individual identification and meeting intelligence capabilities.
