Microsoft Teams: Improvements to the “Manage what attendees see” feature

Microsoft Teams is enhancing the “Manage what attendees see” feature with new intuitive controls for a simpler event production and professional attendee viewing experience. This update is already available for Targeted Release and will roll out globally from late August to early September 2024. The update will apply automatically, with no admin action needed, but users should be informed and documentation updated. A test session is recommended to familiarize with the new controls.

Microsoft Teams: Updated network setup requirements for immersive spaces

Microsoft Teams is updating to a unified backend infrastructure for immersive spaces, simplifying network setup. Rollouts begin mid-August 2024, with full availability by late September 2024. Organizations will need fewer endpoint and firewall configurations, and users won’t need to consent to Mesh’s terms for spatial audio. No admin action is required before the rollout.

Microsoft Teams: Meeting participants can choose a breakout room from a list

Microsoft Teams will soon allow meeting participants to select their own breakout rooms. This feature will be available on Teams for Windows, Mac, and the web, and is part of Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 121269. Rollouts will begin in late September 2024 and be completed by late November 2024. The feature will be on by default and requires no admin action prior to rollout. Organizers should inform users and update documentation as needed.

Microsoft Teams: Expanded search options for 1:1 chats

Microsoft Teams will soon introduce expanded search options for 1:1 chats, allowing users to search content related to a person across Teams. This feature will be available on Windows, Mac, and the web, starting early August 2024 and completing by mid-August 2024. It will be enabled by default.

Microsoft Teams: User uploaded custom background images for the new VDI solution for Microsoft Teams

If users want to change what appears behind them in their video meeting or call, they can either blur their background, use Teams virtual background templates, or with a Teams Premium license, they can change their Teams meeting background to a branded logo or image specific to their company. With this new feature, now users on the new VDI solution for Teams can also replace their background entirely with any image they want by uploading it through the ‘Video effects and Settings’ option.

Microsoft Teams devices: App-only updates for Android-based Teams devices

Updates for Android-based Microsoft Teams devices will be more flexible, allowing for stand-alone app updates. Rollouts start in August 2024 and will enable updates via the Teams admin center for individual components like Microsoft Intune and Authenticator, with automatic updates for certain apps. No action is required from administrators to prepare.
