Microsoft Teams: Ask to join a shared channel with a channel link

Microsoft Teams will soon allow in-tenant users to request to join a shared channel using a channel link. Channel owners can approve or deny these requests. The feature will be available for Teams for Desktop and Mac, with rollouts in mid-June 2024 for Targeted Release, late June 2024 for General Availability, and mid-July 2024 for GCC High and DoD. No admin action is required for the rollout.

Microsoft Teams: Cross location Shifts

Cross-Location Shifts empowers organizations by enabling their Frontline workers to access and select open shifts from multiple locations within a region. Managers benefit from a larger labor pool by opening shift availability across multiple locations: a worker from one store location may select a shift in any other store across their region. This feature is accessible both via desktop and mobile.

Microsoft Teams: Simplifying the personal app header

Microsoft Teams personal apps will start showing a new simplified header bar on Microsoft Teams desktop and web clients. With this change, the “About” tab and other utility actions will be moved to the overflow menu. In addition, the “Chat” tab will be moved to a right-hand side panel for apps that support it.

Microsoft Teams Phone Mobile: New “Call my phone” feature

Teams Phone Mobile is introducing a “Call my phone” feature to transfer calls from the Teams app to a cell phone dialer seamlessly using the Audio Conferencing Subscription service. It’s for individual calls only and will be available after updates in June and July 2024. No admin action is required for the rollout.

Microsoft Teams: Manage Do Not Disturb presence status when screen sharing

Microsoft is introducing a new Teams feature that allows users to disable the automatic Do Not Disturb (DND) status during screen sharing. This feature, linked with Roadmap ID 393228, will roll out from early June to early July 2024, requiring no admin action.

Microsoft Teams: Explicit consent for recording data in audit logs

Starting mid-May 2024, IT admins will see enriched Teams Meeting Recording audit logs with consent data, regardless of the attendance report policy. This global update requires no action if “explicit consent for recording” is enabled, otherwise, follow the provided Microsoft Learn link to prepare.

Microsoft Teams admin center is introducing a unified settings and policies management experience, consolidating them in one place for easier administration. Rollout begins in June 2024, with options to opt-in or opt-out until mandatory adoption by the end of September 2024. No changes to existing settings and policies are required.

Microsoft Teams: Avatars wardrobe updates available soon

New professional wardrobe styles for avatars are coming to Microsoft Teams, with a rollout expected to complete by mid-May 2024. This update will be available for various Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 licenses and will require no admin action prior to rollout. Users can customize their avatars in the Avatars for Teams app. Some may experience color changes in their avatar’s outerwear, which can be easily customized.

Microsoft Teams: Easier discoverability of Workflows templates

In Microsoft Teams, Workflow cards in chats or channels will now show the template used, with a rollout starting in June 2024 and completing in November 2024. A footer link will be added for direct template access, except for certain custom or non-Teams connector workflows.

Microsoft Teams: File Image preview in chats and channels

When you share documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF) in chat or channel conversation, you can see a thumbnail image of the file in the thread. This lets you preview the file’s content without opening it and find the file you need quickly.
