  • Show only custom backgrounds (launched July 2023) – when configured, users will only have the option to apply a custom background.
  • Require background blur (launched October 2023) – when enabled, if a user does not have a background image applied their video background will be blurred.
  • Preset organizational background (ETA February 2023) – when enabled, a user will have a preset background defined by IT without the ability to change the background.

Introducing the ability to duplicate an existing webinar

Currently with webinars, you are unable to duplicate a webinar and create a new webinar based off an existing one. This can be time consuming if organizers would like to schedule multiple events that are similar to one another. To simplify event creation Microsoft Teams is introducing the ability to create a new webinar by duplicating the information for an existing scheduled one. Information includes a webinar’s details, presenters, theming, and more. The organizer can also choose to edit and update the information as needed for their new webinar.

Changes to the Website tab in the new Teams client

Starting April 2024, Microsoft Teams will be retiring the ability to load websites inside the new Teams client when using the Website tab. These website links will open in a new browser tab instead. This is to better align with emerging best practices in web security and privacy while also improving the reliability of websites opened through this feature.

Please note that EDU tenants will not be impacted as we are still researching options on how to best provide a non-disruptive way to access websites for students and educators at a later date.
