Turned-Off Remote Power Shell Protocol
We have made some recent changes to improve the security of your tenant. We announced in December 2022 that we would be retiring Remote Power Shell (RPS) protocol for Exchange Online. In April 2023 we disabled RPS for all new tenants and in May 2023, we disabled RPS for passive tenants. We have now started disabling RPS for active tenants from June 2023.
Today we have turned off RPS protocol in your tenant.
We have previously communicated this change via Message Center: MC488586 in December, and most recently in a Message Center post sent approximately 7 days ago.
How this will affect your organization
Users in your tenant will be unable to use Remote Power Shell protocol and would need to install V3 module instead to connect to Exchange Online. You can install the latest Exchange Online Management v3 module from here.
What If You Are Still Not Ready for This Change?
In March, we announced that if you are not ready or need additional time, you can use our self-serve tool and ask for an extension that will be active till September 30th, 2023. If you need to re-enable RPS, you can do so once, following the steps outlined in the announcement link above. Once the additional time has expired, there will be no further opportunity to use RPS.
If you have questions/concerns about RPS protocol deprecation in Exchange Online, please leave comments here or email us at RPSdeprecation@service.microsoft.com .
