Announcing option to automatically turn on Microsoft Purview Information Protection auto-labeling policy

Admins will now have the capability to configure their auto-labeling policies to be automatically turned on for you if there aren’t any changes to the policy within a set number of days from completion of the simulation. This option is available in the auto-labeling policy setup within the Microsoft Purview compliance portal, as part of the default auto-labeling policy setup, and via cmdlet.

When this will happen:

Rollout will begin in mid-June and is expected to be complete by early July.

How this will affect your organization:

There’s no impact to existing policies. Once this feature is available, admins can opt to have their new auto-labeling policies configured to automatically turn on if there aren’t any changes to the policy within a set number of days from the simulation completing.

This timeframe is set to 7 days by default within the Microsoft Purview compliance portal to allow admins a week to review items in simulation mode and fine tune policy settings as needed. The Microsoft Purview Information Protection auto-labeling policy page will showcase “Date turned on” which for policies in simulation will reflect the date the policy will be automatically turned on if it’s not modified. You can make any edits to the auto-labeling policy before the policy is set to automatically turn on. This will reset the automatic turn on date, or you can remove automatic turn on altogether.

View image in new tabNote: If you are configuring policies using cmdlet, you can also configure the timeframe for automatically turning on the auto-labeling policy to be anytime between 1 hour to 25 days.
