Audit – New default retention for Audit (Standard)

The default retention period for Microsoft Purview Audit (Standard) will change from 90 days to 180 days. The default retention period for Audit (Premium) remains at 1 year.

When this will happen:

Rollout will begin in early October and is expected to be complete by mid-October 2023.

The default retention period for Audit (Standard) will change from 90 days to 180 days. This update will benefit organizations by providing deeper visibility into security data.

What you need to do to prepare:

No action is needed to enable this feature update.

Microsoft Purview Audit enables customers to centrally visualize cloud log data generated across their enterprise, thus helping them effectively respond to security events, forensic investigations, internal investigations and compliance obligations. Thousands of user and admin operations performed in dozens of Microsoft 365 services and solutions are captured, recorded and retained in customers unified Microsoft Purview Audit logs.
