Transition to Teams Town Hall from Teams Live Events

Teams Town Hall now matches Teams Live Events in features, offering enhanced controls and attendee experiences. Users are encouraged to transition to Town Hall, as it supports large-scale virtual events and will replace Live Events in the future. Enable IT policies to prepare for this change.

New PDF Viewer Enabled by Default in Microsoft Edge Starting October 2025

Starting October 2025, Microsoft Edge on Windows will default to an Adobe-powered PDF viewer for enterprise users, improving performance, accessibility, and features. Rollout completes by March 2026. Admins can manage this via policies, with opt-out available until June 2026. No action needed if ready.

Reminder – Support for Office 2016, Office 2019, and additional apps will end on October 14, 2025

Support for Office 2016, Office 2019, Visio 2016/2019, Project 2016/2019, and related apps ends October 14, 2025. After this, no updates or support will be provided, risking security, compliance, and performance. Upgrading to Microsoft 365 Apps or Office LTSC 2024 is recommended.

Microsoft Teams: Configure your Citrix VDI environments for SlimCore-based optimization

Microsoft Teams now supports SlimCore-based optimization for Citrix VDI, offering better performance and new features. Admins must update Citrix Studio policies to whitelist virtual channels (MSTEAMS, MSTEAM1, MSTEAM2) and deploy the Citrix Plugin. WebRTC optimization will be deprecated in the future.

Microsoft Defender for Identity: New recommendations for Microsoft Secure Score

Microsoft Defender for Identity will add new Secure Score improvement actions by late 2025 to better identify identity risks. These include identifying privileged service accounts, removing stale AD accounts, and disabling Entra Seamless SSO. No admin action is needed, but review configurations and notify security teams.

Viva Amplify in SharePoint enables users with licenses to distribute news posts across Outlook, Teams, Viva Engage, and SharePoint sites from a single interface. It auto-optimizes content, offers engagement analytics, and rolls out from late September to mid-October 2025, requiring no admin action unless updating guidance.

Microsoft 365 admin center: Capacity Pack Support for SharePoint Agent and Copilot Tuning in MAC

To help organizations manage metered consumption costs for SharePoint Agents and Copilot Tuning, we are introducing support for Capacity Packs in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center (MAC). This feature allows global administrators to use prepaid message subscriptions before incurring pay-as-you-go (PAYG) charges. Each Capacity Pack provides 25,000 Copilot messages per month, which can be allocated to Copilot Chat environments via the Power Platform Admin Center (PPAC). Once enabled, MAC will prioritize consumption from these prepaid packs and automatically switch to PAYG when the pack is exhausted. Admins can monitor usage in PPAC, including: • Total messages consumed • Remaining prepaid capacity • Message allocation per environment Key Benefits: • Streamlined billing setup in MAC • Reduced risk of overage charges • Automated environment provisioning for Copilot Chat • Improved cost visibility and governance
