Updated Microsoft Defender Antivirus AVSignatureDue policy limit

Starting September 2025, Microsoft Defender Antivirus will require the AVSignatureDue policy minimum to be 2 days (up from 1 day) to prevent false alerts. Organizations with settings below 2 days should update their configuration before rollout completes in mid-October 2025.

Set a customizable initial Start menu layout with an enhanced policy

Starting with the September 2025 security update, IT admins can configure an initial Start menu layout that users can later customize. If you’ve used the Configure Start Pins policy previously, it would revert user personalization to the IT-set configuration after a restart. The enhanced policy allows user changes to persist. This new capability is available to you through configuration service providers (CSP) today, and the Group Policy (GPO) will follow in October.

60-Day Reminder: Windows 11, version 23H2 (Home and Pro editions) will reach end of servicing on November 11, 2025

On November 11, 2025, Windows 11, version 23H2 (Home and Pro editions) will reach end of servicing. The November 2025 monthly security update will be the last update available for these editions. After this date, devices running these editions will no longer receive monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats.

When someone forwards a message in Teams, you’ll now be able to click a link that takes you straight to the original chat or channel where it came from. Note, the link works only if the recipient has access to the original conversation.

Microsoft Edge: Real-time video translation

If you’re learning a new language, or just like to watch foreign videos with subtitles in your preferred language, Microsoft Edge can help. With real-time video translation in Edge, you can watch videos in a different language with translated audio dub. Feature availability and functionality may vary by device type, hardware configuration (minimum 12 GB RAM and 4-core CPU), region, and platform. Availability is limited to select markets. Admins can control availability to this feature using the LiveVideoTranslationEnabled policy.

Microsoft Teams: Improved organization chart in Profile Card (Desktop, Mac, Web)

Microsoft Teams is enhancing the Profile Card organization chart on Windows Desktop, Mac, and web with improved UI, easier navigation, centered individual view, fewer clicks, and new navigation buttons. Rollout starts late October 2025, enabled by default, requiring no admin action.

Microsoft Purview DLP and Edge for Business: Automated blocking of unmanaged GenAI apps in unprotected browsers

Microsoft Purview DLP now automates blocking of unmanaged GenAI apps in Edge for Business, removing the need for separate Edge configuration policies. Rollout begins mid-October 2025. Admins should update or disable old policies to use this automation, enhancing data protection and policy enforcement.
