Microsoft Copilot (Microsoft 365): Federated Copilot Connectors

Microsoft is announcing the General Availability (GA) of federated Copilot connectors for Microsoft 365 Copilot. Federated Copilot connectors enable users to securely connect Copilot to popular third‑party sources and retrieve data in real time using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). These connectors do not store or index customer data in Microsoft services; access occurs in real time using the user’s identity, while administrators retain full governance and control through the Microsoft 365 admin center. With GA, federated Copilot connectors will be supported in Researcher agent, Microsoft 365 Chat, and Agent Mode in Excel, enabling users to bring external data directly into their workflows.

Microsoft Purview: Data Security Investigations – Introducing new personal data examination

Data Security Investigations (DSI) is introducing a new examination focus area concentrated on identifying personal data. The personal data examination will identify and extract various types of personal data from the selected items including but not limited to, names, addresses, bank account numbers, and more. This addition works alongside DSI’s AI-powered content analysis features, such as categorization, AI search, and examination for risk, which help surface data security risks buried in data.

Microsoft 365 Copilot: Customize how managers are identified in Workforce Insights agent and Copilot responses

Microsoft 365 Copilot and Workforce Insights agent will use the SupervisorIndicator attribute from MODIS to customize manager identification based on organizational HR definitions, improving accuracy in insights and analytics without changing reporting hierarchies or access controls. Rollout begins late March 2026.

Microsoft Teams: Copilot PSTN audio announcements

Microsoft Teams now provides audio announcements to PSTN participants when Copilot processes their audio in Copilot Only mode. This rollout is complete worldwide except GCCH and DoD (late June 2026). No admin action is needed; users may hear notifications when Copilot starts or stops processing audio.

Microsoft Entra ID audit logs for Authentication Methods Policy Updates will now show only changed properties with old and new values, improving readability. Rollout starts April 2026. Existing event names and enforcement remain unchanged. Organizations using automated processing should review related logic. No compliance impact identified.

Microsoft Teams mobile will introduce a new “Catch up” view in early 2026, summarizing @mentions, replies, and chats in a card-based layout with swipe actions for quick triage. It is enabled by default, requires no admin changes, and aims to help users manage important messages efficiently.

AI in SharePoint (public preview): New AI site creation experience and updated model options

AI in SharePoint public preview introduces an AI-powered site creation experience by April 2026 and an OpenAI fallback model option rolling out now. Available to Microsoft 365 Copilot-licensed users in preview tenants, it requires Anthropic enabled for full features; otherwise, a fallback model is used with some capability variations.

Outlook Mobile: New external image handling option for safe senders

Outlook Mobile will add a new “Load images for safe senders” option for external images, aligning with Outlook for Windows and Mac. The rollout starts early April 2026. Existing settings remain unless changed, with no impact on security or compliance. No action is required unless updates are desired.
