The May 2025 Windows security update is now available


Microsoft is retiring the SharePoint Alerts feature to modernize notifications. Key dates include the gradual phase-out starting July 2025, with complete removal by July 2026. Microsoft Outlook for iOS will update conversation actions, moving them from the top right to a customizable toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Microsoft SharePoint will add a new Storage tab to the Microsoft 365 admin center usage reports, providing insights on quota consumption and storage management recommendations. Microsoft Edge for Business introduces a new Adobe-powered PDF viewer available for testing in Edge Beta (version 136). Microsoft Excel will retire the Organization data types feature on July 31, 2025, due to low usage and high costs. Users are advised to use the “Get Data > From Power BI” import feature or an add-in for custom entities. This change affects all Excel platforms, but existing data will be preserved without refresh capability. Bing data types remain supported.

New Microsoft Outlook for Windows desktop and Outlook for the web will support an admin setting to define S/MIME signature inheritance in replies. Rollout begins in May 2025. Admins can use the `NoSignOnReply` setting to manage this feature via Microsoft Entra ID or Exchange Management Shell. No immediate action required.

Microsoft Viva Insights will introduce a unified Copilot Analytics experience for Copilot Dashboard users and Viva Insights analysts. Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention is introducing a new “Enterprise AI apps” category in collection policies, available in public preview from mid-May to early June 2025. This feature requires an Azure subscription and an E5 license. Organizations must update their policies to continue ingesting data from AI apps like ChatGPT Enterprise. We are announcing a new feature in the Power Platform admin center (PPAC) Security page that allows administrators to dismiss security recommendations that have been addressed through alternative mitigation strategies. This feature began rolling out on May 1, 2025, and is expected to be available to admins in all public regions by May 16, 2025.
