Alternatives include Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app, web versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, or desktop versions in a Microsoft 365 plan.

Microsoft 365 admin center: Allow usage for custom apps to show in the Developer Portal for Microsoft Teams

Microsoft 365 will introduce a new setting, “App usage for custom apps,” in April 2025, allowing enterprise developers to view app analytics in the Developer Portal for Microsoft Teams. By default, this setting will be disabled. Admins need to enable it to provide developers with insights into app performance and user engagement.

Classic Microsoft Teams: The option to open files in Teams will retire

The option to open files in classic Microsoft Teams will be retired between April 15, 2025, and April 30, 2025, due to security vulnerabilities. Users should open files in the appropriate desktop or web app instead. This change does not affect the new version of Microsoft Teams.

Microsoft Teams: Bi-directional calendar syncing between Google Workspace and Microsoft Teams

Businesses using Google Workspace can now enable bi-directional calendar syncing with Microsoft Teams through the Admin app. This feature, rolling out in May 2025, supports all calendar invites and requires proactive enabling by administrators. Up to 50,000 users per tenant can be synced.

Microsoft Purview | Insider Risk Management: Enhancements to global exclusions in IRM settings

Enhancements to Microsoft Purview’s Insider Risk Management (IRM) exclusions will reduce alert noise, including updates to keyword logic, file path exclusions, and domain exclusions. Public Preview starts mid-April 2025, with General Availability by early May 2025. Admins should update exclusion settings in IRM.

New Microsoft Outlook: Changes to how shared mailboxes are displayed in the folder pane

Shared mailboxes in the new Microsoft Outlook for Windows desktop will be displayed like accounts with a “Shared” icon. The rollout starts in May 2025 and completes by July 2025. The “Shared with me” section will be removed, and no admin action is required. Notify users and update documentation.

Microsoft 365 Copilot: Admin controls and user file uploads for agent knowledge sources

Microsoft 365 Copilot will soon allow users to upload files as knowledge sources for agents and enable admins to manage these agents. Rollout starts in April 2025 for admin controls and May 2025 for user capabilities. Supported file types include docx, pptx, xlsx, pdf, txt, and csv, with specific size limits. Sensitivity labels will apply to agents. No admin action is required before the rollout.

MDE Mobile: Open Wi-Fi and Certificate Detections will be logged as Events

Starting May 19, 2025, Microsoft Defender for Mobile will log open Wi-Fi connections and suspicious certificate detections as events instead of generating alerts. This change aims to reduce alert fatigue while maintaining visibility. No action is required from admins, but reviewing Intune policies is recommended.
