Microsoft Defender for Identity | Detections improvements to reduce noise and improve accuracy

Microsoft Defender for Identity will update several detections from late September to mid-October 2025 to reduce false positives and improve accuracy, lowering alert noise without requiring configuration changes. Admins should review alert volumes post-rollout and inform their security teams accordingly.

Microsoft Teams: People count captured by Cloud IntelliFrame in the Pro Management portal reports

Updated Microsoft Defender Antivirus AVSignatureDue policy limit

Starting September 2025, Microsoft Defender Antivirus will require the AVSignatureDue policy minimum to be 2 days (up from 1 day) to prevent false alerts. Organizations with settings below 2 days should update their configuration before rollout completes in mid-October 2025.

Set a customizable initial Start menu layout with an enhanced policy

Starting with the September 2025 security update, IT admins can configure an initial Start menu layout that users can later customize. If you’ve used the Configure Start Pins policy previously, it would revert user personalization to the IT-set configuration after a restart. The enhanced policy allows user changes to persist. This new capability is available to you through configuration service providers (CSP) today, and the Group Policy (GPO) will follow in October.

60-Day Reminder: Windows 11, version 23H2 (Home and Pro editions) will reach end of servicing on November 11, 2025

On November 11, 2025, Windows 11, version 23H2 (Home and Pro editions) will reach end of servicing. The November 2025 monthly security update will be the last update available for these editions. After this date, devices running these editions will no longer receive monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats.
