Get started with September 2024 improvements in Windows 11


The Microsoft Office 365 subscription will be updated with a service plan for Microsoft Viva Insights Backend in late October 2024, providing insights into organizational trends. No admin action is required before the rollout.

Adding four new themes to Outlook for Windows and the Outlook Web App. These themes will bring more personalization and expressiveness to your email client.

Previously in a town hall, only presenters and organizers could chat with each other. With this new update, attendees, presenters and organizers can now chat together during a town hall using the new Event Chat feature. Presenters and organizers can still chat privately during the town hall as well.

Allows moderators to answer questions from specific attendees without displaying the reply to the other participants. This capability can be helpful for sensitive questions, personal inquiries, or follow-up discussions that are not intended to be broadcast to the entire audience.

In October 2024, Microsoft 365 Copilot self-service purchase settings will be available in the admin center for E3 and E5 license holders. Global and billing admins can set preferences ahead of the rollout, which will happen automatically. Settings are enabled by default but can be managed or disabled.

The “WatermarkWithDisplayNameAndIP” value for Teams meeting policy will retire on October 27, 2024. Organizations using it should note that only “WatermarkWithDisplayName” and “JoinWithAudioOnly” will be supported thereafter. No action is required, but admins should update documentation and inform their teams.

The September 2024 Microsoft Intune Service Update has been released, updating your account to the latest build. You will notice the updated service release number in the Tenant Status blade. To prepare, review the new features on the Intune “What’s new” page and the linked blogs for detailed information.

Microsoft Viva Engage will soon allow users to subscribe to notifications for followed topics, with notifications appearing on the bell icon. This feature will start rolling out in late September 2024 and is expected to be completed by early October 2024. It will be enabled by default.

OneNote for Windows 10 will end support on October 14, 2025, and users should switch to OneNote for Windows. Migration guidance and support are provided, with additional OneNote team support available in October 2024. New user downloads will be restricted starting November 1, 2024.
