Microsoft Teams: New Show/Hide toggle setting for Discover Feed in General settings

A new toggle setting in Microsoft Teams for Desktop and Mac will allow users to show or hide the Discover Feed. This feature will start rolling out in late July 2024 and is expected to be globally available by mid-August 2024. No admin action is required for the rollout.

Web links in the new Outlook for Windows to open side-by-side with email in Microsoft Edge

The new Outlook for Windows will open web links in Microsoft Edge side-by-side with the email, enhancing productivity. This feature will be rolled out from late July to late September 2024 and applies to links from AAD and MSA accounts. Organizations can configure this behavior using the Cloud Policy service or Administrative Templates for Microsoft 365 Apps. Users will be notified of this change and can manage their preferences in Outlook settings.

Classic Microsoft Teams end of support reminder and removing the NEW label

Classic Microsoft Teams support will end on July 1, 2024, with the ‘NEW’ label removed from the new Teams app mid to late July 2024. Classic Teams will be unavailable on certain OS from October 23, 2024, and for all users by July 1, 2025. Users should update their OS and Teams client to avoid disruptions.

Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Data Loss Prevention – Microsoft 365 Groups scoping in Teams DLP policy extend protection to 1:1/n chats

When scoping policies to Microsoft 365 Groups in Teams DLP policies, Teams standard and shared channel charts are currently protected by the policies. This change will automatically extend the protection to 1:1/n (non-channel) chats. There is no longer a need to add users or security groups to protect these chats, except for customers that have enabled optical character recognition (OCR) in Teams chat.

Microsoft Teams: Digital signage on Teams Rooms on Windows

Users can view dynamic, engaging, and relevant content on the Teams Rooms front-of-room display when the device is not in use. Admins can remotely configure tenant-wide and room-specific digital signage settings at scale from Teams Rooms Pro Management. Integrations with selected third-party digital signage providers and content management systems are supported, initial partners are Appspace and XOGO. This feature is available for Teams Rooms Pro license customers.

Out-of-band updates to address Azure Synapse SQL issue caused by Windows updates

Microsoft has identified an issue wherein Azure Synapse SQL Serverless Pool databases enter a “Recovery pending” state, and has expedited a resolution. This issue is observed after installing the June 2024 Windows security update on Windows Server 2022 (KB5039227), Windows Server, version 23H2 (KB5039236), and Azure Stack HCI versions 23H2 and 22H2 (KB5039227). An out-of-band (OOB) update has been released for Windows Server 2022 and Azure Stack HCI, version 22H2 today, June 20, 2024, to address this issue. The resolution for the other platforms affected by this issue will be available in future Windows updates.
