eDiscovery – Graph API for purge enhancements to include Exchange items and expand purge limit from 10 to 100

Microsoft Graph eDiscovery premium API will expand to support items stored in Microsoft Exchange, including emails and calendar invitations. The limit for each purge action per unique location will expand from 10 to 100 items per location. This feature will improve the consistency and scope of the purge action for scenarios such as data spillage or malicious content remediation. Admins responsible for Teams and Exchange purge should review the updated documentation and existing processes, validate the behavior of the eDiscovery premium purge API, and make any related updates to internal organization process and documentation.

Teams Mobile: New citations for Copilot in Teams responses in meetings and calls

Copilot responses in Microsoft Teams Mobile meetings and calls will include a citation number for easy access to the content source. The rollout will begin mid-April 2024 and no admin action is required. Improved user experience and productivity is expected.

OneDrive: Media node in OneDrive for web

OneDrive for web will have a Media node added to the left navigation, allowing commercial customers to view photo and video content stored in their OneDrive in a single view. This will be available worldwide in April 2024, and end-users will be able to perform actions on the media content in this view. No action is required to prepare, but updating user training and notifying end-users may be beneficial.

Microsoft Copilot in Windows starts to roll out to more Windows 11 and 10 devices

Starting today, Copilot in Windows (in preview)* begins to roll out to more Windows 11 and Windows 10 devices. In addition, starting this week, people can access up to 10 Copilot requests in Windows before signing in with a Microsoft account or Microsoft Entra ID. After reaching this limit, it will be necessary to sign in to continue using Copilot.

Microsoft Teams: Pre-pin meeting apps for users

Microsoft Teams is introducing a new feature that allows admins to pre-pin and pre-install meeting apps for users. This update extends the functionality to meeting apps, streamlining the user’s experience, especially during meetings. Admins can choose the meeting apps to pre-pin and pre-install, and no specific actions are required to prepare for this feature update. The rollout will begin in early April 2024 and is expected to complete by mid-April 2024 worldwide.

Microsoft Teams: Intelligent message translation in chats on desktop

Microsoft Teams will have intelligent message translation in chats on desktop. Users will see translation suggestions when they receive a message in a different language. Users can select which languages they do not want to translate and whether to translate messages automatically. The feature will begin rolling out in early April 2024 and will be completed by late May 2024. Users can access and update their translation settings through Settings > Appearance and accessibility > Translation. It is recommended to notify users and update training and documentation.

Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365: Copilot for Sales plugin in Microsoft Teams meetings. Admins can enable the Copilot for Sales plugin in Microsoft Teams meetings, which allows Copilot for Microsoft 365 to access Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales data to retrieve sales information and brand information for the account mentioned. The plugin will be available for eligible end-users in late May 2024. Admins should enable the plugin for end-users to use the feature.

Reminder: Classic to new Teams update, new Teams rollout, and new Teams only availability

Microsoft Teams is rolling out a new update, and all new feature development will only be available in the new Teams. After March 31, 2024, existing values for new Teams client policies will no longer be valid for non-VDI customers, and after June 30, 2024, for VDI customers. The “New Teams only” policy is now available in the Teams admin center (TAC), and a new Teams usage report is available in the Teams admin center. To ensure a seamless update to new Teams, admins should gradually roll out TAC policies, ensure users have the minimum operating system requirements, and ensure users are not blocked from app installation due to configuration issues. The classic Teams for Virtualized Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) will reach end of availability on June 30, 2024.

Microsoft Teams: New Admin control for setting default storage app for file uploads

Microsoft Teams admins can soon change the default storage app for file uploads in Teams from Microsoft OneDrive and SharePoint Online to a third-party provider of their choice. This only applies when local files are uploaded using drag-and-drop in Teams chat and channel conversations. This feature will roll out in early April 2024 and is not relevant if your organization is not using a third-party storage provider on Teams. Third-party developers will need to update their apps to support the new admin settings. No admin action is required as the rollout will happen automatically by the specified date.

Microsoft Teams Rooms: Zero-touch provisioning of new rooms on Windows devices

Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows devices will have zero-touch provisioning, which will reduce complexity and improve security and compliance. This feature uses Windows Autopilot through Intune and Auto-sign in technologies to remotely deploy and recover new Teams Rooms on Windows devices with no physical intervention. The rollout will begin in early April 2024 and will require a Teams Rooms Pro license. No action is needed to prepare for this rollout.
