Windows news you can use: January 2026 recap

OneView and TrueTime features in Outlook Web App will retire between March and June 2026, removing personal account connections and combined calendar views. Users must manually manage calendars afterward. No admin action is needed, but users should be informed and directed to Outlook desktop apps for multi-account support.

Engage will retire live events powered by Teams Live Events effective April 15, 2026. Existing live events already scheduled will continue to be supported through February 28, 2027. We encourage customers to transition to events in Engage powered by Teams town halls, which offer an improved experience for large-scale digital and hybrid events.

Microsoft Purview eDiscovery (Premium) will enable adding a statistical sample of search results to review sets, allowing earlier validation and reduced review volume. Rollout starts February 2026 worldwide and March 2026 for GCC/DoD. No prep needed; feature integrates with existing workflows and is enabled by default.

Teams Rooms on Android will gain digital signage capabilities by March 2026, allowing dynamic content display when rooms are idle. Admins can configure signage tenant-wide or per room via the Teams Rooms Pro Management portal, supporting select third-party partners and custom URLs with specific requirements.

Starting early to mid-February 2026, Outlook for iOS and Android on iPads may open Word, Excel, and PowerPoint attachments directly in their apps if installed, replacing the in-app previewer. This experiment affects iPad users only, requires no admin action, and may not be permanent.

Microsoft Purview Posture Reports are now generally available, providing admins unified, near-real-time insights into Information Protection and Data Loss Prevention. Reports auto-refresh hourly, appear by default in the Purview portal, and require no user action. Rollout begins early February 2026 and completes mid-February 2026.

Insider Risk Management is providing the ability to create a case without content. With this, we will introduce a new active case limit (2000). This new functionality will allow customers to create more cases particularly when content download is unnecessary. If a case is created without content download, content download can be initiated anytime the case is active pending available content download limits. There is no change to the active content download limit (100).
Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management correlates various signals to identify potential malicious or inadvertent insider risks, such as IP theft, data leakage, and security violations. Insider Risk Management enables customers to create policies based on their own internal policies, governance, and organizational requirements. Built with privacy by design, users are pseudonymized by default, and role-based access controls and audit logs are in place to help ensure user-level privacy.

When viewing your calendar on iPad, you can now expand an event to a full‑screen view, giving you more space to review information and make edits.

Navigate code blocks more easily with improved keyboard controls and default line numbers. Set code language quickly and reference specific lines for improved collaboration and workflow.
