People Skills: AI skill inferencing expanded to E3/E5 licenses

AI-powered People Skills skill inferencing will expand to Microsoft 365 Enterprise E3 and E5 users, enabling admins to activate this feature in the admin center. Rollout begins late January 2026, enhancing workforce analytics and people-based queries for organizations with Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses.

Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention | Enforcement plane rename from Entra to Application

Microsoft Purview DLP is renaming the Enforcement plane from “Entra” to “Application” starting mid-January 2026, with no functional or user impact. Admins should update scripts and documentation accordingly. New audit logs will reflect “Application,” while existing logs keep “Entra.” No compliance issues identified.

Initial deployment phase for Kerberos RC4 hardening begins with the January 2026 Windows security update

Windows updates released on and after January 13, 2026, introduce the first phase of protections addressing a Kerberos information disclosure vulnerability (CVE‑2026‑20833). These updates introduce new auditing and optional registry controls that devices can use to begin reducing reliance on RC4 encryption. They also help prepare domain controllers for a future shift to AES‑SHA1 as the default Kerberos encryption method for accounts without explicit encryption settings. The initial deployment phase focuses on identifying misconfigurations or dependencies before the second deployment phase begins in April 2026.

Microsoft Copilot (Microsoft 365): People Skills – Expanded AI inferencing for E3/E5 users

People Skills is expanding AI powered skill inferencing to include Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 licensed users. Previously, AI powered skill inferencing was available only to Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Viva licensed users. With this update, admins will have the option to turn on AI powered skill inferencing for Microsoft 365 E3 / E5 licensed users directly in the Microsoft 365 admin center. AI powered skill inferencing uses AI to automatically identify and update skills on users’ Microsoft 365 profiles based on their work activity from the Microsoft Graph. This control will be available to US-based tenants with Copilot licenses.

Microsoft Viva: Viva Glint – Navigation improvements in Reporting

Viva Glint Reporting users like managers and leaders will be able to retrace their navigation flow i.e. drill down and drill up in reports rather than lose their navigation flow within reports. Navigation improvements will replace “Go Back” to Reporting home page with an alternative clickable UX to enable users to go back to the last page of reporting they were in. In other words, this feature will cater to Back navigation improvements in Reporting.

Export Viva Engage admin settings from Engage Admin Center

Starting late January 2026, Viva Engage admins can export a CSV snapshot of admin settings from the Engage Admin Center, including tenant- and network-level configurations. The export excludes community-level and Teams/Microsoft 365 Admin Center settings. Accessible by Global, Engage, and Verified Admins.
