Microsoft Power Platform and Azure Logic Apps – Potential Service Disruption for Twitter connector

On Wednesday, February 1, 2023, Twitter made the following announcement:

“Starting February 9, we will no longer support free access to the Twitter API, both v2 and v1.1. A paid basic tier will be available instead”

We have been working with Twitter to explore an agreement that would result in uninterrupted service. However, given the short notice and lack of details provided, we are concerned about a possible disruption and want to ensure you are aware of the situation.

How does this affect me?

These changes may affect any apps, flows, workflows, and chatbots in Microsoft Power Platform products (including Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Virtual Agents) and Azure Logic Apps that use the Twitter connector.

Your users may experience impact in the following ways, depending on how changes from Twitter are rolled out:

  • Access to Twitter using the ‘Use default shared application’ option in the connection could stop working when Twitter starts enforcing the changes.
  • Access to Twitter using the ‘Bring your own application’ option in the connection may require you to upgrade your API access to a paid tier.
  • If Twitter changes its Developer API contracts, without honoring backward compatibility, the Twitter connector may not work and result in an error.

What action do I need to take?

We encourage you to move to using the ‘Bring your own application’ option as soon as possible to minimize any disruption from the changes Twitter is considering. We will continue to work with Twitter to obtain more information so we can provide additional clarity and updates on the changes and mitigation plans.
