Microsoft Teams Flyout Enhancements

App flyouts are contextual menus found throughout the Microsoft Teams experience that enable users to launch installed apps and to discover and install new apps within the specific context the user is in. For example, when a user opens the Message Extension (ME) app flyout from a group chat, they are shown all of their ME-enabled installed apps which can be used within that group chat. Engaging with apps via the flyout allows users to remain in their flow of work and reduces confusion regarding the app capabilities within that context.

When this will happen:

The enhanced flyouts will begin rollout in mid-February 2023 and is expected to be complete by late February 2023.

How this will affect your organization:

App flyouts will be enhanced in the Personal, Messaging Extension (ME), and Meeting contexts. The enhanced flyout experience will enable:

  • Users to easily discern and launch apps that are already installed
  • Users to discover and acquire apps for a specific capability while staying in their flow of work
  • Users to easily navigate to the Store if they can’t find the app they are looking for within the flyout
  • Users to search for apps across the Store catalog

Clicking on the “…” button from the app bar opens the Personal App Flyout.

Clicking on the “…” button underneath the message compose box opens the ME Flyout, keeping users in their context.

There is nothing you need to do to prepare for this feature. You may want to update any relevant training documentation as necessary.
