Modern Translator feature in Microsoft 365

The Modern Translator feature in Microsoft 365, Microsoft Office 2019, Microsoft Office LTSC 2021, Microsoft 365 Semi Annual Extended Microsoft 365 Semi Annual July 2021, Microsoft 365 Semi Annual Jan 2022 and Microsoft 365 July 2022 is making changes that may require users and tenant administrators to take steps to ensure continuity of service. The message is an advance advisory as work is currently in progress and there is no change in the user experience or your privacy. We are slowing rolling out the changes as part of the normal validation cycle and we will post frequent updates providing the date on which you will need to act. Customers using Outlook Web, Teams on the Web, Word Online and Microsoft 365 Semi Annual March 2023 Preview do not need to take any action.

Products Not Impacted

• Yammer, Access, Project, Visio and Publisher, Exchange, Bookings, SharePoint, OneDrive, Stream, Lists, Forms, Viva, Planner, Sway, Power App, Power Automate, Power Virtual Agents, To Do and Power BI

When this will happen:

Preview: The changes have been fully rolled out for Word Web App and Outlook Web App and Outlook is in Production at 10%. Word, Excel, OneNote and PowerPoint have started rolling out and will be in preview during March. Teams will be in preview during April.

Standard Release: The rollout will complete for Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote in March and for Teams in June.

How this will affect your organization:

By the beginning of July 2023, Microsoft will start switching off the Office service that was supporting The Modern Translator translation requests in Microsoft 365, Microsoft Office 2019, and Microsoft Office LSTC 2021 after which the Modern Translator feature will stop working for you. This does not impact the Azure Cognition Translation Services.
