OneDrive: Ask questions about images using Copilot

You can now use Copilot to ask questions about images stored in OneDrive. This feature, requiring a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, will be available to commercial customers on OneDrive web starting late February 2025. Users can explain image contents and extract text from images. No admin action is required.

Now, you can ask questions about images stored in your OneDrive using Copilot. Select up to 5 images and ask questions, like explaining the contents of an image or extracting relevant text from an image. This feature requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot license and will be available to commercial customers on OneDrive web.

When this will happen:

General Availability (Worldwide): We will began rolling out in late February 2025 and expect to complete by mid-April 2025.

How this will affect your organization:

Users will be able to perform following actions on images:
  • Explain the contents of the image: Users can select an image in their OneDrive and ask questions to get insights. For example, users can ask to describe what the image is or explain the concepts outlined in the image. Users can also ask Copilot to give insights on the selected image.
  • Extract content from images: If the selected image has text, users can ask Copilot to capture the content of the image. For example, if the image is of a whiteboard, Copilot can turn the image into notes that users can take action on.

What you need to do to prepare:

This rollout will happen automatically with no admin actionrequired. Please notify your users about this change andupdate any relevant documentation as appropriate.
