OneDrive sync client will no longer be supported on Windows Server 2008 R2
The OneDrive team is committed to bringing you the best, most secure experience possible across your devices. As such, we are ending support for the OneDrive Desktop application (sync client) on Windows Server 2008 R2 and focusing our resources on new technologies and supported operating systems.
Note: Extended support for Windows Server 2008 R2 ended in January 2020.
If you are not using the OneDrive sync client with Windows Server 2008 R2 you can safely ignore this message.
- Timing: August 20th, 2021
- Action: review and update impacted Windows Server 2008 R2 machines as appropriate.
How this affects your organization:
Clients running on unsupported versions may continue to run but their functionality will no longer be tested and they may be blocked at a later point in time. It is not advised to continue to run on these unsupported operating systems.
Bugs and issues found on, or specific to, unsupported operating systems will no longer be investigated or fixed.
What you need to do to prepare:
To ensure a smooth transition we recommend that you upgrade machines appropriately. Machines running on Windows Server 2008 R2 should be upgraded to Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019.
