Microsoft is launching the Microsoft Places Management web portal in August 2025, replacing PowerShell scripts with a user-friendly interface for managing buildings, floors, rooms, and desks. Accessible to specific admin roles by default, it offers hierarchical views, filtering, and editing based on permissions, with no setup needed.

Microsoft Places will support four desk modes—Unavailable, Assigned, Reservable, and Drop-in—allowing admins to better manage desk availability. Rollout begins mid-August 2025. Admins should review and update desk configurations, documentation, and communicate changes using PowerShell or the new Places Management portal.

Microsoft Teams attendance reports will gain new filters to set minimum attendee counts and enhanced sorting by date and time, improving report efficiency. The update rolls out worldwide on August 18, 2025, and for GCCH/DoD on August 31, 2025, available by default on Windows and macOS with no action needed.

Microsoft 365 Admin Center will add budget controls for Copilot Chat pay-as-you-go billing, allowing global and billing admins to set budget limits, receive customizable alerts, and view six months of spending data. Rollout starts mid-July 2025, with no automatic service shutdown at budget limits.

The Project Manager agent in Planner will preview a feature using encrypted SharePoint files for improved task creation and execution. New Plans enable this by default; existing Plans require manual activation. Tasks from encrypted files become unencrypted for export. Rollout starts late July 2025, completing late August 2025.

Scoped knowledge support for Declarative Agents will roll out worldwide in mid-August 2025, allowing organizations to limit agent access to specific data containers across connectors like Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jira, and ServiceNow. This improves response relevance, data control, and compliance with organizational policies.

Starting mid-August 2025, Microsoft Copilot Chat will feature a new Tools button offering easy access to task-specific AI capabilities based on user licenses. This default-enabled update enhances feature discoverability without requiring admin action; organizations should inform users and update training as needed.
