Microsoft is consolidating ‘Microsoft 365 Defender for Cloud Apps’ communications under ‘Microsoft Defender XDR’ in Service health and Message center by September 2024. Organizations should update training and documentation, and configure email preferences to include ‘Microsoft Defender XDR’.

Microsoft Teams: Block a user for your organization

Microsoft Teams is introducing a block user feature to prevent malicious users from contacting an organization again. This feature, associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 411138, will be available worldwide in early November 2024. Admins can block users, preventing 1:1 and group chats with them. It’s off by default and can be enabled in external access settings.

Take action: Enable multifactor authentication for your tenant before October 15, 2024

Enable multifactor authentication (MFA) for your tenant by October 15, 2024, to access Microsoft Azure portal, Microsoft Entra admin center, and Microsoft Intune admin center. Postponement is possible, but without MFA, admin sign-in will prompt MFA registration.

Microsoft Defender for Office 365: Tenant Allow/Block List will support IPv6 allow and block entries

Microsoft Defender for Office 365 will soon support IPv6 allow/block entries for customers with specific service plans. Rollout begins late September 2024, with completion by late October 2024. Admins can manage entries via the Defender portal or PowerShell without submissions. Entry limits vary by plan.

Microsoft Teams apps and Microsoft Copilot extensions: New security and certification information

New Microsoft Teams apps and Copilot extensions will provide admins with security and certification information for compliance assessment. This feature, available in the Teams and Microsoft 365 admin centers, will include Microsoft 365 certification outcomes and ISV-submitted data. It will roll out worldwide from mid-October to mid-November 2024 and is on by default. No admin action is required before the rollout.

Microsoft Teams: Volume ratio setting for meeting participants using language interpretation

In Microsoft Teams, a new feature will allow meeting participants to adjust the volume ratio between original and interpretation audio. This applies to Teams on Windows and Mac desktops, provided the meeting organizer enables language interpretation. Rollouts will occur from October to December 2024.

Retirement: Investigation priority score feature

The ‘Investigation priority score’ feature in Microsoft Defender is retiring from mid-September to late October 2024. SOC administrators and analysts will need to use ‘Entra risk score’ instead and are advised to consult provided Microsoft Entra ID Protection resources for preparation.

Microsoft Teams now supports embedding town hall events in sites managed by users. This feature includes engagement tools like Q&A and captions within the embed player. Organizers can get the unique embed code from the town hall scheduling template to add to SharePoint or Microsoft 365 sites. Rollout starts early October 2024, with full availability by late November 2024. The feature is detailed in Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 401120. Organizers should prepare to implement the code upon release.
