Microsoft Teams: Ask to join a shared channel with a channel link

Microsoft Teams will soon allow in-tenant users to request to join a shared channel using a channel link. Channel owners can approve or deny these requests. The feature will be available for Teams for Desktop and Mac, with rollouts in mid-June 2024 for Targeted Release, late June 2024 for General Availability, and mid-July 2024 for GCC High and DoD. No admin action is required for the rollout.

Microsoft Teams devices: Cancel device operations through the Teams admin center

Soon, Microsoft Teams device admins will be able to cancel device operations from the Teams admin center. This feature will be available for Teams Rooms on Android, Teams Phones, Displays, and Panels, providing greater control over devices. Rollout will occur from late June to mid-September 2024.

SharePoint Framework domain isolated web parts retirement

Microsoft is retiring SharePoint Framework domain isolated web parts. Starting April 2, 2025, new tenants won’t have this feature, and it will be removed for existing tenants on April 2, 2026. Organizations should update and redeploy affected web parts as regular web parts.

Microsoft Edge: AI theme generator

Microsoft Edge will include an AI theme generator, that allows users to input a text prompt and generate a series of images to preview as browser themes. Applying the theme includes setting the generated image on the Edge new tab page, and applying the image’s dominant color to the browser frame. Admins can restrict access to this feature using the AIGenThemesEnabled policy.

Integration of Universal Print with the Microsoft 365 mobile app will enable users to add work/school printers to their Android phones. Once the printers are installed on the phone, the user can print to them from any phone app that has a print action.

Cross-Location Shifts empowers organizations by enabling their Frontline workers to access and select open shifts from multiple locations within a region. Managers benefit from a larger labor pool by opening shift availability across multiple locations: a worker from one store location may select a shift in any other store across their region. This feature is accessible both via desktop and mobile.

Universal Print: Pull Print queues

Pull Print enables IT Pros to offer their end users a simplified view of the print solution. Specifically, IT Pros can set up virtualized printer(s) per location or region so that end users only need to know the name of one printer. Those users can securely release their own print jobs at any printer at that location or region, depending on the setup.
