Microsoft Edge Data and Consent Changes in European Economic Area

Note: If your organization does not have users in European Economic Area, you can safely disregard this message.

To prepare for the Digital Markets Act, Microsoft Edge will roll out changes starting no earlier than February 20, 2024, that will go into effect in the European Economic Area (EEA). This will allow end users in the EEA the option to uninstall the Microsoft Edge browser. In addition, Microsoft Edge will no longer rely on the Windows diagnostic group policies in the areas affected by the Digital Markets Act. It will instead use the Microsoft Edge group policy, DiagnosticData, for diagnostic data collection. Edge version 122 will also introduce a new policy, UrlDiagnosticDataEnabled, to enable more control over optional data collection. This policy provides the ability for your organization to send optional diagnostic data to help with critical product improvements and stability but avoid sharing URLs of pages visited and per-page usage.

Microsoft Stream: Site-level video analytics dashboard

This dashboard gives access to aggregated analytics for videos on a SharePoint site. This feature will go live in late January for customers enrolled in the private preview of Stream advanced video analytics. Customers interested in applying to join the private preview may submit an application via the URL associated with this roadmap item.

We expect the dashboard to enter general availability in June. The metrics on this dashboard are divided into the following sections:

  • First, the Lifetime Video report contains 3 metrics for videos on the SharePoint site—Total Views, Unique Viewers, and Average Watch Rate.
  • Second, Video Traffic report shows views and viewer patterns across the last 7 days, 30 days, and 90 days.
  • Third, Video Usage shows views by device and geolocation. Fourth, Top 20 Videos shows a list of the most popular videos on the SharePoint site in the last week.

We are introducing a PowerShell, so admins can control the presenter role permissions in untrusted environments, such as EDU, where students assigned as presenters can remove other students from the meeting.

Key changes that apply to personal and work or school accounts excluding Microsoft Teams Rooms:

Data Loss Prevention – Enriched Data Loss Prevention (DLP) alert email notifications for DLP admins

There is now increased information in the alert email notification sent to the Data Loss Prevention (DLP) admins upon a DLP policy match. Previously a DLP alert email only included the user activity and the type of sensitive information matched in the alert. Now, DLP admins will get additional context such as alert ID, policy details, device details, and more. This will help admins quickly assess the priority of an alert and determine the next steps before navigating to the Microsoft Purview DLP alerts page or Microsoft 365 Defender DLP alerts page.

Retirement of entities in Outlook for contextual add-ins

We’re making some changes to the way Outlook supports contextual add-ins. Contextual add-ins activate based on the content of an email message or a meeting request. Currently, Outlook supports two methods for activating contextual add-ins: entity stamping and regular expression (regex) matching.

Entity stamping is a process where Outlook identifies and highlights certain types of data in a message, such as addresses, phone numbers, meeting suggestions, and task suggestions. When a user clicks on a highlighted entity, Outlook shows a list of add-ins that are relevant to that entity.
