Exchange Online will retire Basic Auth for Client Submission (SMTP AUTH) in September 2025. Users must switch to OAuth or other alternatives before this date, as applications using Basic Auth will no longer be supported. Steps to prepare and alternative options are provided.
Viva Learning is adding new content and Copilot Academy will be available in seven new languages. Admins can enable/disable these features in the Manage Academies and Manage providers sections. Rollout starts mid-May 2024, with completion by late May 2024. Users can access new resources and language options in Copilot Academy and discover new courses in Viva Learning.
Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management is introducing a policy tuning analysis for priority content policies in public preview mid-May 2024. This feature predicts the number of users matching policy conditions, aiding admins in adjusting controls to manage insider risks effectively. Rollout will be automatic with no required admin action before the specified date.
Outlook and Teams are introducing a new meeting response called ‘Follow’ for attendees who can’t attend but want to stay informed. It’s rolling out from late April 2024 to early July 2024, initially in the new Outlook for Windows and the web, not on Mac or mobile. Organizers will be notified of ‘Follow’ responses, and users will be marked as free but kept in the loop.
The Monaco Editor is the fully featured code editor from VS Code with standard IDE functionality such as syntax highlighting, IntelliSense, and autocomplete.
App centric management for app deployment will introduce a new admin setting to control who in the tenant has specific Teams apps preinstalled. Similar to app assignments, admins will be able to select from three options: ‘Deployed to all users’, ‘Deployed to specific users and groups’, or ‘Deployed to no users’. This feature replaces the existing Installed apps section of app setup policies and provides admins with the ability to manage app deployment individually. The Installed apps section of app setup policies for existing customers will be migrated to maintain existing admin settings in the tenant.
Viva Connections is now available directly on the browser. All the same functionalities that exist in Teams now also surface directly in the browser, providing a consistent experience with other Viva Modules.

Generating quizzes from provided materials is one of the most commonly requested features in the education industry, and it is now available in Forms. To save time, users can create quizzes from documents, textbooks, or notes using Copilot. Copilot can create draft quizzes based on the provided materials and users’ prompts.
A top ask from customers is to modernize Access charts and to support better data visualization in Access. To satisfy this user request, we are integrating a new charting package called “Ivy” into Access. Ivy is a charting package written by the Office DVX team that is currently used in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
