Power Platform – Access Dataverse audit log using Synapse and Power BI is now available

We are announcing that accessing Dataverse audit log using Synapse and Power BI is now publicly available. You can create Power BI reports to meet your internal and external auditing, compliance, security and governance policies.

How does this affect me?

Starting January 31, 2024, Access Dataverse audit log using Synapse and Power BI will be publicly available for use in all Dataverse environments.

You can enable auditing in each Dataverse environment and all user access requests, environment configuration changes, and record updates are logged. You can create your own Synapse workspace and pull auditing data from Dataverse following the instructions in the article, Create an Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse with your Azure Synapse Workspace. Dataverse audit log will start flowing into your own Synapse workspace. You can use Power BI and create audit reports by connecting to this Dataverse Synapse workspaces.

What action do I need to take?

To create an Azure Synapse link for Dataverse to link your audit log, you will need an Azure administrator who has access to:

  • An Azure subscription with permissions to create/read resource groups and workspaces.
  • Create Azure Data Lake storage Gen2 (account owner).
  • Dataverse environment with system administrator permission.
  • Power BI desktop to create reports.
