Private Team Discovery

End-users can discover private teams now dependent on admin-setting!

This admin only control will help admins make all or label-based private teams discoverable in their organization, for all or scoped end users with a simple toggle. The set of end users who have private teams’ discovery turned on for them by the admin, can search for private teams through the “Join team gallery” in their client. End users will still need to send join request for approval to the team owner.

When this will happen:

Targeted Release: We will begin rolling out late October 2023 and expect to complete by early November 2023.

Standard Release: We will begin rolling out early January 2024 and expect to complete by mid-January 2024.

How this will affect your organization:

You, as an admin will have control on private teams being discoverable in your tenant. You can choose to scope it to a set of users, using the Teams Admin Center policy setting or in addition to the Teams Admin Center policy, you could also apply sensitivity label setting through Compliance portal to make teams discoverable as per the sensitivity label.

By enabling only the Teams Admin Center policy (default Off), the set of users under the policy will be able to search and send join requests for private teams through the “Join a team” page in the client.

By enabling the Compliance portal policy in addition to above, the set of users under the policy will be able to search and send join requests for private teams only with sensitivity labels enabling discovery through the “Join a team” page in the client.

What you need to do to prepare:

Admins must turn on the Teams Admin Center policy for the Compliance policy sensitivity label policies to take effect.
