Suggest types for Viva Topics

Topic types provide better context to users by providing them with a suggested category for topics that helps them distinguish two topics with similar names and determine what type of information they’re viewing. We’ll continue to suggest types like products, projects, events or more, and we’re adding the ability to identify over 150 types which are more granular, like conference, framework, process, and more. As a topic contributor, you can select one or more types for the topic, and set a type to appear at the top of the Topic Card and Page in a pill-shaped designation.

When this will happen:

Targeted Release (if applicable): We will begin rolling out late November and expect to complete by early December.

Standard Release (if applicable): We will begin rolling out early December and expect to complete by mid-December.

How this will affect your organization:

Users can see types as part of the topic information. The types, if available, will appear on the topic page, card and answer. The contributors and knowledge managers can select one type to be highlighted on the topic as a badge. When possible, types will be suggested on suggested, confirmed and published topics.

What you need to do to prepare:

Published topics will not show the type as a badge as default, so you can let your contributors evaluate the suggested types and edit the types as needed.
