General Availability of Viva Topics for Yammer

We are announcing the General Availability of Viva Topics for our Yammer customers.

The General Availability of Viva Topics for Yammer experiences enables us to leverage a more robust and secure infrastructure for Topics. It also enables organizations to use these Topics outside of Yammer (for example, Topics can be tagged in Teams chats or in Outlook messages).

Microsoft Viva: Automatic Topic Relationships available in GCC

The ability for AI to suggest relationships between topics will be available for customers in our Government Clouds. These suggested related topics appear on the topic card, page and answers.  This is already available for standard worldwide customers.

New Service Plans for Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Viva SKUs

As previously announced, we will be releasing our new experiences for Viva Engage and Answers in Microsoft Viva in early 2023.

When this will happen:

Suggest types for Viva Topics

Topic types provide better context to users by providing them with a suggested category for topics that helps them distinguish two topics with similar names and determine what type of information they’re viewing. We’ll continue to suggest types like products, projects, events or more, and we’re adding the ability to identify over 150 types which are more granular, like conference, framework, process, and more. As a topic contributor, you can select one or more types for the topic, and set a type to appear at the top of the Topic Card and Page in a pill-shaped designation.

Viva Topics: Update to the experience for collecting feedback on AI quality and correctness through the Topic Card

You will soon see an updated experience on the Topic Card to better request feedback from users on the quality of a suggested highlight on SharePoint modern pages, and the quality of a suggested topics and its suggested properties. The questions have not changed, but the experience is more noticeable and has a new option to respond with “Not sure”. You can learn more about Topic curation and feedback here:

Pin External Resources to Viva Topics Topic Pages

Topics contributors of Viva Topics will now be able to pin external resources to their topic pages. Previously, contributors could only link to sites and pages within SharePoint. The Viva Topics product team is aware that relevant topic content often lives outside of SharePoint and wants to bridge the gap between that knowledge and their Viva Topics.

Viva Topics Insights

NOTE: This message is for tenants with Viva Topics. Please disregard if you are not utilizing Viva Topics.

Insights for Viva Topics will be rolling out to the Insights area under Search & Intelligence in the Microsoft 365 admin center. You will need to be a SharePoint admin and a Groups admin to see this dashboard.

Viva Topics: Use Syntex taxonomy to generate topics

Microsoft Viva Topics and SharePoint Syntex customers can build on their existing investments in classifying & organizing content with the ability to use the taxonomy service in Syntex and SharePoint to generate topics. This new integration uses the term names, including those you are already using with SharePoint Syntex, descriptions, synonyms & tagged files to create topics that the AI can use as a seed to discover additional connections with people & files.

Note: You will need to have Viva Topics purchased and set up in your organization to see this feature.

Exclude files from topic discovery based on applied sensitivity labels

This release will enable you to select sensitivity labels that exclude SharePoint files from topic discovery. Once this new configuration is saved, files with the selected labels will no longer be included as part of the discovered list of files for an AI-suggested topic. Any description or alternate names extracted from those files will also be removed from the AI-suggested topic.

Note: If you are not using Microsoft Viva Topics and sensitivity labels, you can safely disregard this message.
