Syntex OCR for image-only multi-page PDF and TIFF

With this update, multi-page image-only PDF and TIFF files in the libraries you have configured for Syntex OCR will also have text extracted.  This extracted text will be available to Microsoft Purview scenarios and to end user search powered scenarios. For multi-page PDF and TIFF documents, OCR is charged on a per page basis.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 124940

When this will happen:

We will begin rolling out in early December 2023 and expect to complete by late January 2024.

How this will affect your organization:

In the libraries where you have OCR configured, more files will have text extracted.

What you need to do to prepare:

Check your configuration of Syntex OCR in the Microsoft Admin Center, and make sure it is applied to the desired sites.  Inform end users about the ability to better search these sites.  Inform compliance admins of the increased coverage of their policies.

If you have not yet configured OCR, visit Setup–> Files and Content –>Set up Syntex and connect an Azure subscription to set up Syntex.  Then select the sites you would like to have OCRed either in the Manage Syntex area in the MAC or in Microsoft Purview under settings.
