14-Day Reminder of Private Unlisted Group Removal

Pursuant to MC673984 and MC673984, all private unlisted groups (also known as “Secret Groups”) will be retired on 11/11/2023. The retirement of this feature was first announced via the Message center on September 1, 2022 (MC424414). Subsequent announcements drove awareness of private unlisted (“secret”) groups being made inaccessible on September 1, 2023 (MC673984).

This is the 14-day reminder that private unlisted groups in Yammer will be permanently deleted and deprecated on November 11, 2023.

If you have already received an approved exception from Microsoft support delaying your migration to Native Mode, your private unlisted groups will not be affected by this change.

How this will affect your organization:

Your Viva Engage/Yammer network will no longer support private unlisted groups. Users will no longer be able to:

  • Create private unlisted groups.
  • Access or participate in existing private unlisted groups.

What you need to do to prepare:

By converting your network to native mode, your private unlisted groups will be converted to private groups connected to M365 in Native Mode and their content retained for the future. More information on Native Mode is available here.

If there is any content in your private unlisted groups you would like to retain a copy of, consider a data export. You can read more on this here.
